After last year’s issues with Tim Lankford & others within the department, some whom were suspended without pay, and all of whom completed diversity training after we brought their online postings to the public, the Nashville Fire Department made a very clear and very public statement, in regards to employee’s social media postings – Unless they were speaking on behalf of the department, their personal social media accounts should either carry a disclaimer that opinions are their own, and not that of the MNFD, or they were simply not to have their profile state they were a NFD employee, or show their badge/uniform/etc in the photo, to imply employment. Anything otherwise could be implied as speaking for, or on behalf of, the Metro Nashville Fire Department. Over the past month we’ve been monitoring the public social media profiles of some of the most active employees of the NFD online – and what we have found may shock you.

Allen Hanback, a Fire Captain with the Nashville Fire Dept ($76,739.20 annually), certainly makes his workplace known on his social media accounts, in both text and photos, and he doesn’t shy away from his very public opinions, including asking adult film stars out on dates, and making sexist remarks about Katy Perry’s tits. He also regularly retweets and replies to citizens that have mentioned the NFD on twitter, and those scenes he was worked on. This is just a small sampling of the things we’ve noticed on his social media over the past few months – let’s look in more detail as his very public opinions while showing he’s a identifying as a metro government employee online. He does appear to be in direct violation of the department’s social media policy, which states, in part:

  • 2-C. With respect to online behavior, employees are personally responsible for their activities conducted with a Metro Nashville Fire Department e-mail address, and/or which can be traced back to a Metro Nashville Fire Department e-mail address. Employees are personally responsible for their activities on social media and are responsible for any content that they publish online. As such, employees may not post material that is defamatory, threatening, obscene, harassing, or that violates the privacy rights of any individual or entity.

One year ago this month, we were first introduced to Allen Hanback, via another NFD employee, who was upset of the things he was posting online, including this image:

Since then, things have only gotten worse.

Hanback endorses the MNPD assaulting more citizens, in response to a Metro officer that was decommissioned last year for doing just that:

Hanback routinely calls people out on social media and bullies them, many of the timestamps align to times we confirmed via other employees that he was on-shit at the fire station for the MNFD:

Here, Hanback makes demeaning comments about transgenders, Caitlyn Jenner, in particular:

Hanback tweets about Katy Perry, directly to her, in regards to her ‘great tits’

Hanback routinely posts political posts while identifying as a MNFD employee, including his profile photo of him in uniform, on duty:
