Lyft Driver Arrested for Stealing Passenger’s Purse in Nashville

During Nashville’s CMA Fest week in June, rideshare drivers from nearby cities came to Nashville to make some extra cash and help with the projected spike us of rideshare services such as Uber & Lyft. Keleian Dawson, a Memphis resident, was driving in Nashville for Lyft during this week. When he picked up a passenger from Winner’s bar on Division St – he is reported to have kept more than just his fare. According to police reports from the MNPD, he stole his rider’s purse when she fell asleep in his vehicle, while he drover her home, using the Lyft platform.

An arrest warrant was filed after the victim made a report to the police, and reviewed video from the bar, to make sure she did have the purse with her when she left. Dawson was taken into custody on the charge of Felony Theft (over $1,000) yesterday, 08/02/17, and bonded out at 2:30AM Thursday morning on a $2,000 bond with Free At Last Bonding, still listing his home address as Wentworth Cv in Memphis, TN.

According to the arrest warrant:

The victim called for a Lyft and the defendant arrived and picked her up from Winners bar, located at 1913 Division St. There is surveillance video from Winners bar showing the victim with her purse on her shoulder, she then crosses the street and then out of view on the camera got into the defendants car. The defendant drove to the victims house and on the ride the victim fell asleep in the car in the front passenger seat. When she awoke she was home and her purse was no longer on her shoulder. The defendant denied she even had a purse when she entered his vehicle.

Dawson has dozens of charges in Memphis, where he lists as his residence – including other theft charges, traffic violations, no license charges, and drug offenses.

Dawson is scheduled to appear in General Sessions court in Nashville on 09/05/2017.
