Officers arrested Jeremy ‘Austin’ Bowden Friday morning just before 5AM for ‘FELONY SELL, DELIVER, OR DISTRIBUTE COUNTERFEIT CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES’ (T.C.A. 39-17-423).

Officers were looking for a female with an outstanding warrant when they believed they saw her and Bowden in a vehicle at a convenience store on Long Hollow Pike. Officers lost sight of the vehicle, and then observed it moments later, without Bowden inside. During the stop of the vehicle Bowden was noticed watching from another parking lot and detained him. Inside the vehicle, 4.5 grams of a white powdery substance was found, packaged to look like narcotics, according to a police affidavit, along with several more plastic baggies. Per the report, Bowden immediately told officer it was baking soda, and field tests on the substance showed it was negative for any controlled substance. Bowden also has $229 in small cash pills. He was transported to Davidson County booking and charged with counterfeit controlled substance.

Bowden was released just after 10AM Friday on a $5,000 bond.

Here’s the full arrest affidavit:

Officers were attempting to locate an individual who had an outstanding warrant. While checking the area officers observed the defendant sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the parking lot of 150 Long Hollow Pike with a female individual who matched the description of the subject with the warrant. Officers lost sight of the defendant and then observed the vehicle leave the parking lot and pull into a closed business. Officers then initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle to identify the female and to gather information on why the vehicle pulled into a closed business. Upon making contact with the driver who was the female officers observed with the defendant I observed that the defendant was no longer in the vehicle. A secondary officer observed the defendant in a separate parking lot watching the traffic stop and detained him and brought him to my location. While talking to the driver I observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search found a small amount of marijuana in the female’s purse. Further check of the vehicle revealed 4.5 grams of a white powdery substance packaged to look like narcotics. Officers also found several more plastic baggies in the vehicle. The defendant immediately started telling the officers that the powdery substance was baking soda. Field tests of the substance did not show it to test positive for any controlled substance. A check of the vehicle found it to be owned by the defendant. A search of the defendant’s person revealed $229.00 in small denominations consistent with street level narcotic sales. When I asked the defendant about the money he stated he made it working. When asked where the defendant worked he became irate and refused to answer. Defendant was therefore transported to Davidson County booking and charged with counterfeit controlled substance. REF GOPD 17-27963
