Friday Bail Out Report: East Nashville 09/1

5 of our our East Nashville friends and neighbors were bailed out of jail in Nashville on Friday. Bonds posted on 09/1 with a 37206, 37207, or 37216 home ZIP code.

DEFENDANT: Marva L Goodman (Age 51)

On 4/10/2017 at 1345 hours, the victim was standing in line at the Family Dollar, 600 Shelby Avenue. She had a cell phone with a small pouched attached to it. Inside the pouch were multiple cards and $200.00 cash. She walked away from the counter and then realized that her phone and pouch were missing. She became angry and asked all the patrons if they took per cell phone. No one answered. The defendant was in line behind the victim.

After the defendant left the store, the clerk told the victim that the defendant took her phone. The victim caught up with the defendant as she walked down the side walk. The defendant told the victim that she didn’t have her phone and let her search her bags.

On 4/11/2017, the victim and the police went to the defendant’s apartment and asked her about the phone. The defendant told the police that when she was standing in line, her friend told her to pick up his phone. She did and put it in her purse. She said she took the phone because she was tricked by the friend. But, she admitted that when the victim came back in angry about her phone, she didn’t give it back. She said that she was too scared. She said that she went out to the parking lot and put it on a ledge. During a subsequent interview by detectives, she was asked why she didn’t just contact police and turn it in. She said she didn’t think about it. She just wanted to get rid of it.

The defendant clearly had several opportunities to return the victim’s property and didn’t do so. Total loss for the victim was $280.00.

DEFENDANT: Dontia L Dardy

ON 09/01/2017 AT APPROXIMATELY 0613 HRS, OFFICER’S INITIATED A TRAFFIC STOP ON THE ABOVE LISTED VEHICLE FOR NO HEADLIGHTS AND MADE CONTACT WITH THE SUBJECT WHO SUPPLIED A NAME AND DATE OF BIRTH TO VERIFY IDENTITY THOUGH STATE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IN STATE, THE SUBJECT HAD NO DL AND SHOWED AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT THAT WAS CONFIRMED WITH DCSO. THE SUBJECT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AND TRANSPORTED TO BOOKING.

DEFENDANT: Derrick L Benford

Officer Coon and Officer Kendrick were riding together in an unmarked police Chevy Impala when they observed the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was driver and sole occupant of a vehicle, TN Plate: 7H87K5, stopped for speeding (paced 40+ in a 30 mph zone) on Montgomery Ave and a window tint violation. Upon making contact with the suspect, officers could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and suspect’s person. The suspect consented to a search of his person and informed officers there was a drug scale in the vehicle. During this search, Officer Coon found a plastic baggie containing approximately 13.4 gms of powder cocaine (field test positive) in the suspect’s right front pants pocket. Found in the back left pants pocket was a stack of cash. Two more stacks of cash were found in his right front pants pocket. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, Officer Coon found another $1 in the center console and $70 in the eyeglass drop down compartment in the vehicle, as well as the drug scales mentioned earlier. The stacks of money totaled: $1,013/$1,000/$2,100. The total money seized from the vehicle was $4,184. The monies in question were in various denominations and groupings, but predominantly consisted of smaller denominations consistent with narcotics sales. Due to the lack of drug use paraphernalia, packaging of narcotics, denominations of monies, and overall totality of the circumstances, officers believed the suspect to be more than a casual drug user and therefore in violation of the felony drug statute. The suspect was mirandized and stated the drugs were his. The suspect stated that he does not currently work, but is actively looking for a job. The suspect stated he uses cocaine daily but does not know the amount of the drugs he uses. The suspect could not remember how much he paid for the cocaine and did not know how much the amount he was carrying was worth. The suspect’s driver’s license status returned through ARMS as suspended.

DEFENDANT: Christopher Johnson

Officers were dispatched to Southern Hills hospital for a female who had significant injuries to her face. The victim stated that her and her boyfriend had gotten into a verbal argument where they were currently staying at the Nashville Airport Inn and Suites in room xxx. Her boyfriend, Mr. Johnson, who had been drinking, escalated the situation into a physical altercation. Ms. victim stated that Mr. Johnson had grabbed her phone from her hand and smashed the screen. After he broke her phone he started punching her in the face and when she fell down he got on top of her, held her down, and kept hitting her face. At some point during the altercation she stated that he put his hands around her neck and she briefly lost consciousness. When she was able to get up she tried to get away and leave out the door of the hotel room and Mr. Johnson kept getting in front and pushing her away from the door when she was attempting to leave the room. Ms. victim stated the phone was a ZTE Maxx from Boost Mobile that is valued at approximately $100. Officers observed Ms. victim to have significant bruising, swelling, and discoloration to her face and abrasions to her throat. Southern Hills hospital staff stated that Ms. victim had suffered a broken nose during the assault. Officers were able to take photos of the injuries that Ms. victim had sustained.

DEFENDANT: Timothy Charles Northern

THE DEFENDANT WAS OPERATING THE ABOVE MOTOR VEHICLE EAST BOUND ON E. OLD HICKORY NEAR RANDY ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BECAUSE THE DEFENDANT WAS NOT WEARING HIS SEATBELT. DURING THE STOP THE DEFENDANT HAD ONLY HIS ID UPON HIS PERSON. A COMPUTER CHECK SHOWS THE DEFENDANT’S DRIVERS LICENSE TO BE SUSPENDED AND TWO OUTSTANDING WARRANTS. THE WARRANTS WERE CONFIRMED BY THE MNPD WARRANTS DIVISION AND THE DEFENDANT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. UPON A SEARCH OF THE DEFENDNAT’S PERSON INCIDENT TO ARREST A SMALL BAGGIE OF MARIJUANA WAS LOCATED WITHIIN HIS LEFT REAR PANTS POCKET.
