They were caught on video stealing packages from multiple houses that were delivered earlier that day. According to security camera footage, and police affidavits, Bret Rideout and his employee, Sean Durham, were in a white Ford F-250 pulling a trailer, and driving up and down the neighborhood, pulling up to houses, and stealing the packages that had been delivered to multiple homes. Surveillance video shows the defendant above driving a white, Ford F-250 pulling a trailer and passing the victim’s house. The truck then pulls away before the co-defendant is able to close the door of the vehicle. The truck was in front of the victim’s house for approximately thirty seconds. The defendant did speak with detectives and stated that he was the driver of the vehicle and had been with the co-defendant. The packages in this incident are valued at $120. On 09/06/17 the victim called police to report that a package, valued at $500, had been taken from his porch, and that the incident was witnessed by a neighbor. The neighbor states that a white, Ford F-250 pulling a trailer stopped in the street near the victim’s residence, and that a white male exited the vehicle and took the package from the victim’s porch. The male then returned to the vehicle, which then drove away. The victim did receive video from a neighbor showing the vehicle in the neighborhood. The suspect was identified as the defendant above by another package theft on the same date that was captured by video surveillance, showing the same vehicle being used. Photos of the suspect were shared between neighbors, confirming that it was the same suspect in both thefts. This wasn’t Bret A Rideout’s first thing dealing with criminal charges, he was previously charged with theft in 2009:

On January 18th, 2009 an individual contacted eBay about a phone he had purchased from the defendant was listed as stolen after he tried to activate it. The defendant was contacted and told the buyer that if you can’t get it activated to send the phone back and he would be reimbursed for the purchase. Further investigation showed that the phone was shipped from xxx Vernon Ave Nashville, TN 37209 which was verified as the residence as the defendant. It was also corroborated via email and seller ID number that it also came back to the listed defendant. The phone belongs to the listed victim and verified by purhcase number and SIN #. The defendant also was employed at the facility of the theft and was at work the day of the theft. The defendant was called in for an interview and did not show up for the interview.

.. and again in 2009 for stealing items from his employer (including the above phone):

02/08/09, the victim and someone from his Construction Company (BSI) rececived a phone call from a xxx , stating that she had just won the bid for a phone she had bought from Bret Rideout. She stated that she had won the bid and after trying to activate the phone, it came back stolen. There was inofrmation on the phone that lead her to believe it belong to the company, and it was verified through the vicitm that in fact it was stolen from their company. A second phone was stolen along with this phone. Information was provided and corroborated that she purchased the phone from a Bret Rideout, and sent the payment to his paypal account to xxx Vernon Ave, this address was confirmed that the defendant lives there.

After reviewing the ebay account of the listed defendant, it was discovered that other items listed on his ebay account were items belonging to his company and also were taken without their authority. This defendant had been notified by the company about thefts and terminated and told to return all items that he had taken and were being listed on his eBay account. He did not return all items and the computer projector and the two phones were also items that were listed as stolen and not returned by the defendant.

Rideout has one additional Theft under $500 state citation from 2006 for which the details were not immediately available. Durham has no prior charges in Nashville.
