Black Friday Shoplifter Arrest: Jessica Hotovy – $1,012 from Kohl’s

Jessica Hotovy has a history of shoplifting and running cons – she even once duped a Colorado man out of $31,000 by claiming she was pregnant with, and had given birth to, the man’s son – a Judge found against her in that case rather quickly, as she had lied about the entire ordeal. That happened just after she had advanced to the Hollywood round of American idol in 2008. Since moving to Nashville, her crimes have not been as ‘glamorous’, as she has resorted to shoplifting from popular stores such as Target & Kohl’s – but we’re not talking about small time things.

On Black Friday afternoon, Jessica Hotovy got her bags out of her car, and entered the Hermitage Kohl’s – where she filled her bags with merchandise, while using a multi-tool to remove the security tags. She made it all the way to the parking lot with her $1,012.97 worth of merchandise before being stopped by MNPD and loss prevention staff.

Jessica Holotv was charged with felony theft, and possession of a merchandise theft tool. She had a $7,000 bond and was released on the pre-trial program later Friday evening.

This wasn’t her first shoplifting arrest in Nashville – in August Jessica Hotovy was found guilty of a March 2017 shoplifting incident at Target, where she once again brought a large empty bag into the store, and began filling it with merchandise, including a fit bit,  before passing all the points of sale, and attempting to exit the store. The value of those items was $813.48

It’s unclear that Hotovy is currently employed anywhere, as she’s had multiple failed start companies in Nashville, mostly related to failed music ventures. Her husband, Craig Hotovy, is a Data Center Manager for the State of Tennessee, who makes nearly $90,000/year. Additionaly he was charged with domestic assault in May and will appear in a Nashville courtroom in January.

They are also in default of their Amazon credit card, and earlier this month were served with a summons to appear in court for their unpaid debt on that account.

MNPD Affidavit – Kohl’s:

Police were dispatched to the Kohl’s at 2330 Jackson Downs blvd regarding a shoplifting. Kohl’s loss prevention observed the defendant concealing merchandise in bags, which the defendant had brought into the location with her. After concealing a large amount of merchandise, the defendant exited the store, passing all points of sale. The defendant was stopped in the parking lot by police and Kohl’s loss prevention. The stolen merchandise was still in the possession of the defendant. Kohl’s also has security footage of the defendant concealing and exiting the store. The total of the amount of merchandise taken by the defendant was $1012.97. Police also found several removed tags on the defendant’s person. The defendant also had a multi tool, which she had been using to remove merchandise tags. The defendant was charged for the merchandise theft tool as well.

MNPD Affidavit – Target:

ON 3/11/2017 OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO 780 OLD HICKORY BLVD IN REGARDS TO A THEFT FROM THE TARGET AT THAT LOCATION. OFFICERS SPOKE WITH THE LOSS PREVENTION ASSOCIATES, WHO HAD THE DEFENDANT DETAINED IN THE SURVEILLANCE ROOM. THEY STATED THAT THE DEFENDANT CAME INTO THE STORE WITH A LARGE EMPTY BAG AND BEGAN WALKING THROUGH THE STORE AND PLACING MERCHANDISE INTO THE BAG. WHILE WALKING THROUGH THE STORE, THE DEFENDANT REMOVED A PAIR OF SCISSORS FROM THEIR PACKAGE , THEN USED THEM TO CUT A FITBIT FROM A LOCKED PEG. THE DEFENDANT WALKED TOWARD THE EXIT OF THE STORE AND PASSED ALL POINTS OF SALE WITHOUT PAYING. THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF MERCHANDISE TAKEN WAS $813.48. THE DEFENDANT HAS A PREVIOUS CHARGE FOR THEFT OF MERCHANDISE, THEREFORE IT IS REASONABLE TO BELIEVE THAT THE OFFENSE WILL CONTINUE.
