He was a man with a dream. A dream of playing country music in Nashville. It’s a story we’ve all heard a hundred times. Patrick Yeary had this dream. A few months ago he was working at a car dealership in Virginia, even posting over the summer that he just wanted to pick up his guitar and travel across the country. Earlier this month, he did just that – and made it as far as his favorite city – right here in Nashville, TN. Not everyone that moves to Nashville brings their smarts with them, as some old timers would say. Yeary just might fall into that category.

In fact, I’m pretty sure that getting sloppy drunk in a city you want to make a good impression in, so much so that you’re dropping your handgun on the sidewalk as you’re walking downtown while intoxicated, qualifies you as not having much common sense. Patrick Yeary found this out the hard way on Black Friday as he went downtown for some drinks.

Friday night, just after 7PM, MNPD was dispatched to a drunk person with a handgun, walking up 4th Ave N, near commerce. That person was Patrick Yeary.  A concerned citizen had flagged down an off-duty officer, who then called it in. Patrick Yeary was having difficulty leaning against a wall, and was swaying, and had already been disarmed by the off-duty officer on the scene.

The gun was a Glock 19 9mm with a 15 round mag. Patrick Yeary had already dropped it once on the sidewalk while attempting to walk on 4th ave, according to a witness.

Per the police report, Yeary had slurred speech, an unsteady gait, red watery eyes, and a smell of alcohol coming from him. According to officer, Yeary did not know where he was, due to all those indicators, and being armed, Yeary was taken into custody and charged with possession of a handgun while under the influence, and public intoxication. His bond was set at $5,000 and he made bond the following day via Binkley bonding and will appear in court on 12/12.

Just after being bonded out, Yeary posted this on his twitter “If I never see the letters DCSO, it’ll be way too soon!” We feel ya, big guy. We can tell you that it’s hard to be a musician in this town and not have at least some interaction with them, at some point. Maybe consider this your ‘welcome to Nashville’ gift. Trying to find gig’s in Nashville ain’t easy, and you’re one of over a hundred a day moving here for a dream.

Here’s a recording of some of Yeary’s work:

MNPD Affidavit:

Upon my arrival I was meet by an off duty officer and a concerned citizen. I observed that the suspect Mr. Patrick Yeary he was having difficulty leaning against a wall and swaying. The off duty officer handed me Mr. Yeary’s Glock 19 9mm with a 15 round mag. The off duty officer stated that the concerned citizen had flagged him down about the suspect. The off duty officer had the suspect give him the gun. I placed the Glock 19 9mm in my vehicle and rendered it safe. I approached the suspect and could smell the odor of alcohol coming from his person. I also observed that he had slurred speech, an unsteady gait, and red watery eyes. The concerned citizen stated that the suspect had dropped it once on 4th Ave North. I placed the suspect into custody due to the fact that he was armed and also that he did not know where exactly he was.
