The call text read: MALE TRESPASSING, PANTS PULLED DOWN, HUFFING DUSTER. On Wednesday, that’s exactly what Offer Betty of the MNPD found when he arrived to the Arcade alley downtown.
Brandon Gibson was found lying on the ground of the Arcade alley, his lower body exposed, and still huffing a can of compressed air duster. Officer Betty attempted to help Gibson to his feed, according to a police report, and even gave him the opportunity to walk away without being arrested. However, Gibson refused to comply, and started making aggressive movements, so he was placed against a wall, at which time the officer asked Gibson “are you done yet”. Gibson continued resisting and refused verbal commands, and attempted to overpower the officer, according to a witness of the arrest. Backup was called, and at that point Gibson was pinned to the ground, and cuffed. In the struggle, Gibson sent one officer to the hospital for lacerations to both of his legs, and a laceration above his eye. Gibson also damaged some equipment that the officer was wearing.
Charges:
- Inhaling or Possessing to Inhale Fumes, Glue, or Gasses
- PUBLIC INTOXICATION
- RESISTING STOP, FRISK, HALT, ARREST, OR SEARCH
- ASSAULT
Bond was set at $3500, and Gibson was released about 8 hours later.
Gibson was previously arrested on 11/06/17 for huffing duster, too. At that time he admitted that he knew the dangers of huffing by stated he “was five month sober”. This resulted from an arrested when he was inhaling duster cans in the parking lot of a Staples:
On 11/6/2017, Police received an call for service about the Defendant Brandon Gibson inhaling duster cans in the Staples parking lot. Officers observed the Defendant passed out with a duster can in his hands. There were several cans of used duster near his persons, when Officers approached the Defendant. The Defendant admitted to Police under Miranda Warning that he had purchased 3-4 cans of duster from the nearby Home Depot and had inhaled them in the Staple’s parking lot area. The Defendant admitted to police that he was intoxicated on inhaled fumes at the time of the police contact.

Officers were dispatched to the Golden Corral on Old Lebanon Dirt Rd. Officers were advised that there was a male behind the location huffing paint. Upon arrival officers located Mr. Gibson slumped over on the fence behind the location. Upon contact the defendant could not respond to officers questions. Mr. Gibson grabbed a bottle of “duster” and inhaled it in front of officers and officers took the bottle away from Mr. Gibson. Mr. Gibson could not stand up on his own and was assisted to his feet by officers. Mr. Gibson was very unsteady on his feet, had blood shot, watery eyes and his speech was slurred. Nashville Fire responded to the scene and Mr. Gibson refused their assistance. Mr. Gibson has been arrested for inhaling fumes 3 prior times since 05/19/2014.

THE DEFENDANT WAS OBSERVED TAKING A CANNED AIR OFF THE SHELF AND ENTERING A BATHROOM IN THE STORE. THE LOSS PREVENTION OFFICER FOLLOWED THE DEFENDANT TO THE BATHROOM WHERE HE COULD HEAR THE DEFENDANT HUFFING THE CANNED AIR. ONCE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY LOSS PREVENTION IDENTIFIED THE INDIVIDUAL AS A BANNED PERSON. DEFENDANT ADMITTED TO THEFT OF THE CANNED AIR, KNOWINGLY TRESPASSING AND HUFFING THE CANNED AIR. LOSS PREVENTION PRICED THE CANNED AIR AT $4.75.

On January 7, 2015 at hrs I was dispatched to Summit Hospital. Defendant Gibson was brought into the hospital by NFD for huffing dust destroyer at the Chick-fil-a. Once inside Defendant Gibson told hospital staff that he needed to use the bathroom. Once inside of the bathroom Defendant Gibson started huffing duster that he snuck into the hospital in his clothing. Witness Rossi stated he witnessed as Defendant Gibson was inhaling inside of the bathroom. He along with Victim Skiles attempted to stop the defendant from inhaling the fumes. Defendant Gibson then ran out of the bathroom, and hit Victim Skiles with his arm and pushed him out of the way. Upon questioning Defendant Gibson he admitted that he was inhaling fumes in the bathroom but stated he did not remember hitting Victim Skiles.

On 5-1-15 at approximately 10:25 hours Vanderbilt Police was dispatched to the Law School on Vanderbilt Campus in reference to a male individual in the courtyard next to the Law School who was huffing the gases out of an aerosol can. Upon VUPD arrival the individual was spotted walking outside the Law School with an aerosol can in his hand. He was unsteady on his feet and did not seem to have his wits about him. After further investigation it was discovered that this individual (Brandon Gibson) had been discharged from the Vanderbilt Hospital earlier this morning around 07:00 hours and was later found in the Starbucks near 21st and Grande at approximately 08:30 hours passed out in the restroom from huffing aerosol. He was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital at that time and then shortly released. It was at this point that we were called to the Law School and had the individual transported back to Vanderbilt Hospital to be evaluated. He was quickly released and then taken into custody for Public Intoxication and Inhaling/Possessing Aerosol for Unlawful Purposes. He was transported to CJC for booking. Mr. Gibson also has outstanding warrants with MNPD.
09/25/15
On 09-25-15 a male suspect took nine containers of canned air into the bathroom of the Wal-Mart located at 3458 Dickerson Pike. The suspect then used these items to “Huff” in order to gain a high. Wal-Mart Loss Prevention approached the suspect and identified him as Brandon Kiel Gibson. Brandon Gibson was later transported to Skyline Hospital for treatment for his condition. The canned air had a retail value of approximately $39.00 dollars.

Walmart personnel and off-duty officer C. Foster were alerted that the defendant was in the Women’s restroom at the rear of the store, consuming aerosol computer duster. The defendant did not pay for the items and was taken to the hospital because of his physical condition he was in. The total of the aerosol consumed totaled $39.68. The same subject has done this three times recently and was told not to return to the store by the staff.

On March 31, 2017 at approximately 14:31 hours, VUPD was dispatched to a male subject running down the sidewalk that appeared to be disoriented with a can in his hand. Upon arrival, Officer Dion located the individual behind 426 21st Ave S., Nashville TN 37203 (CVS). The individual was later identified as Brandon Gibson.
Officer Dion witnessed Gibson purposely using an aerosol can of Dust-Off Duster, causing intoxication. Gibson was unable to speak, unable to hold himself up, and unable to care for himself. MFD responded to the scene and transported Gibson to VUMC for treatment.

LOWES LOSS PREVENTION OBSERVED THE SUSPECT TAKING CANNED AIR/STORE MERCHANDISE PAST ALL POINT OF SALE AND LEAVING STORE PROPERTY. LOSS PREVENTION OBSERVED THE SUSPECT BEGIN TO HUFF THE AIR DUSTER NEAR RAIL ROAD TRACKS AT LEBANON AND OLD HICKORY BLVD. ON OFFICER ARRIVAL THE SUSPECT WAS SLUMPED OVER WITH THE CANNED AIR IN HIS HAND AND AN EMPTY CAN NEAR HIS FEET. SUSPECT WAS UNSTEADY ON HIS FEET AND REQUIRED ASSISTANCE TO STAND. SUSPECT SLURRED HIS WORDS AND WAS UNABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS INITIALLY. OFFICERS RECOGNIZED THE SUSPECT FROM PREVIOUS CALLS FOR THE SAME OFFENSES. DUE TO THE SUSPECTS CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE ROAD AND OR RAIL ROAD TRACKS HE PRESENTED A DANGER TO HIMSELF AND OTHERS. DUE TO THE SUSPECTS HISTORY AND HIS ACCESS TO THE INHALANT THERE IS ALSO A REASONABLE LIKELIHOOD THE OFFENSE WILL CONTINUE. SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT.

Police were dispatched to Walmart at 7044 Charlotte Pk regarding a shoplifting incident. Walmart loss prevention observed the defendant select a can of compressed air from the store shelf and conceal it inside his pants. The defendant then walked to the front of the store where he walked past all points of sale and exit the store without paying for the can of compressed air. Police located the defendant in a wooded area next to Walmart and took him into custody. The defendant had to be transported to the hospital from where he was inhaling the compressed air. The dollar amount will be $4.

OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO 5824 NOLENSVILLE PIKE (WALMART) ON THE MORNING OG 6/6/2017. THE DEFENDANT WAS OBSERVED BY THE EMPLOYEES OF WALMART WALKING IN THE LOCATION AND STEALING AIRDUSTER CANS. THE DEFENDANT REPEATLEY WALKED INTO WALMART AND STOLE A FEW CANS AT A TIME. A TOTAL OF TEN CAN’S WERE STOLEN. THE DEFENDANT WAS LOCATED BY OFFICERS IN A WOODED AREA BY THE STORE INSIDE THE TENT SPRAYING AN AIRDUSTER CAN INTO HIS MOUTH. MUTIPLE CAN’S COULD BE SEEN IN THE AREA IN WHICH THE DEFENDANT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.
