It seems every year celebratory bullets land in the most inconvenient places on New Year’s Eve. This year it was in the living room of a Nashville residence.
A coupe of hours before his arrest, 18 minutes before midnight on New Years Eve, DeMario Vassar posted the image below to social media:
Just over an hour later, At 12:58 AM, a friend commented on the post, saying “Boy I kno yo neighbors ticked”, which Demario Vassar laughed at – and that’s about the time that a call came into MNPD from his neighbor – that a bullet landed in their living room, where they had just left to go into another room.
The bullet came through the neighbor’s wall into the living room. MNPD observed a hole that went through a covered patio and then through the back wall into the living room wall. The victims believed the shots fired had come from behind their back yard, so officers conducted a knock and talk at the location, the residence of Demario Vassar.
Vassar admitted to firing a Taurus 9mm handgun in the backyard, which matched the round that had gone through the neighbor’s house, into their living room, where they were sitting moments before. According to his social media, they are lucky it was only a round from a handgun, considering what other options were on the living room table.
Vassar was arrested, and charged with two counts of felony wreckless endangerment. Bond was set at $5,000, however he was released on the pretrial program and will appear on court on 01/26.
There’s another felony violation he could be charged with here. The picture of the AK pistol with a drum magazine also shows there is a vertical forward grip installed on it. While it is a stupid law, the forward grip installed places that pistol into a separate classification called Any Other Weapon (AOW) under federal guidelines and the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA). To install that grip legally would require a tax stamp from the BATFE and permission from the same. A violation of that law is a felony which is punishable up to seven years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.
