03/07: On Wednesday morning at Cora Howe Exceptional School in East Nashville, an 18 year old student refused to be searched by the electronic wand, bypassed the security checkpoint, continued into the school where he eventually assaulted the assistant principal, Jonathan Mahaffey.

The assistance principle did not want to press charges for assault. MNPD arrested the teenager on disorderly conduct, and he will appear in court on 03/23/2018. He was ROR’d until his court date after booking.

Here’s the MNPD affidavit describing the incident:

MNPD WAS DISPATCHED TO A FIGHT INVOLVING A STUDENT ATTACKING TEACHERS AND STAFF AT THE CORA HOWE EXCEPTIONAL SCHOOL. [STUDENT] ATTENDS HIGH SCHOOL AT 1928 GREENWOOD AVE. [STUDENT] WALKED AROUND THE SECURITY POINT AT THE ENTRANCE AND REFUSED TO BE SEARCH BY AN ELECTRIC WAND. JONATHAN MAHAFFEY, PRINCIPAL’S ASSISTANT, ATTEMPTED TO STOP [STUDENT]. [STUDENT] WAS WALKING TOWARD THE CAFETERIA AND JONATHAN WAS CONCERNED FOR OTHER STUDENT’S SAFETY. JONATHAN DIRECTED [STUDENT] TO RETURN TO THE FRONT ENTRANCE. SINCE [STUDENT] REFUSED TO STOP, JONATHAN ATTEMPTED TO STOP [STUDENT] AND [STUDENT] PUSHED JONATHAN OUT OF THE WAY. A PHYSICAL ALTERCATION BEGAN AND [STUDENT] HAD TO BE RESTRAINED UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED. WHEN I ARRIVED JONATHAN WAS ACTIVELY STRUGGLING WITH [STUDENT] ON THE FLOOR IN A PUBLIC PLACE. JONATHAN STATED HE DID NOT WISH TO PROSECUTE AT THIS TIME FOR ASSAULT. [STUDENT] STATED HE REFUSED TO BE SEARCH WITH A WAND BECAUSE HE NEVER HAS ANYTHING ON HIM. I ARRESTED [STUDENT] FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT FOR FIGHTING IN A PUBLIC PLACE AND TRANSPORTED HIM TO BOOKING BECAUSE HE CONTINUED TO ARGUE AND STAFF.

Even though the student is of legal age, we have removed his name from this report for privacy
