Bartender Boyfriends Heist 3 Bottles of Pappy Van Winkle from Pour House, worth $6,000

Benji Brown & Andy May are well known in most every Nashville scene, or have been at some point of their lives. From the underground music scene, the LGBT scene, and certainly the service industry scene, and on both sides of the bar in half the hottest venues in town, so this story may surprise you. In fact, you may remember Benji from season 5 of ‘Worst Cooks in America’ on the Food Network. The cute couple has also been dating for a few years.

So it was a surprise to everyone when both were arrested on Friday morning, for a heist from their former employer, Pour House.

According to Bryan Matthews, the manager at Pour House on 8th Ave. S, he was working on May 2nd, when near closing time, Andy (William) May & Benji Brown entered the restaurant. Matthews immediately recognized them both as former employees of the Pour House.

As viewed by detectives on the security video, after the two entered the bar, Andy May was observed going into the liquor cage, and coming out with three bottles of Pappy Van Winkle, valued at $6,000 total. He was then given the car keys by Benji as he went outside to their vehicle, which was parked in the back, and he placed the liquor bottles in the vehicle. Benji exited the building, too, and got into the passenger side of the vehicle, while Andy May got into the driver’s side, and they then drove away, with the stolen liquor.

Warrants were signed on Thursday, and they were taken into custody on Friday, both charged with Class D Felonies for theft of merchandise¬†$2,500 or > but < $10,000. Both were given $2500 bonds, which Brown posted via Grumpy’s. May was released on the pre-trial-release program. They will appear in court on 06/07/18.
