The MNPD’s fatal crash team is continuing its investigation into Thursday night’s fatal car-tractor trailer collision on I-24 west near Briley Parkway in South Nashville that impacted traffic on the interstate for hours.

Officers have determined that a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Katelynn Bruce, 27, DL address out of LaVergne, was traveling west on I-24 in the far right lane when she lost control of the car and hit the right side of the truck.  Due to the impact, both vehicles traveled across the other two traffic lanes.  Prior to leaving the roadway, the truck rolled onto its side, slid through a metal light pole, went through a guardrail and took down a large tree.  The Cobalt, entangled with the trailer, struck the guardrail and came to rest behind the trailer on the grass shoulder.

The driver of the truck, Fahiye Mohamed Nur, 31, of Chicago, died at the scene.  Bruce was not seriously injured.  After providing her information to first responding officers and giving a brief statement, Bruce declined to be transported to a medical facility by ambulance, but asked that a friend take her.  She told officers she was headed to Skyline Medical Center.  She did not go there, and other hospital checks were negative.  Officers are now trying to find her to ask further questions as a result of a thorough analysis of the crash scene and the wreckage.

The completed investigation will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office for a determination as to whether charges will be placed.
