Sophia Rosales reported that she was part of a large crowd standing behind the Wild Horse Saloon looking up at the sky at approximately 9:37 p.m. when she felt a sharp pain in her neck. She initially believed that the pain may have been caused by fireworks and walked to an ambulance. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where an x-ray showed that she had suffered a bullet wound. No one reported seeing a person fire a gun. Rosales is in stable condition at Vanderbilt. Police say the bullet that injured the 22-year-old woman and may have been fired into the air from some distance away.
In an unrelated incident, Kabrina Black, 22, reported that she was sitting on the steps of the A.A. Birch Building watching the fireworks display when her right leg was struck by something. She said there were a lot of people in the area at the time. Black said she returned home to Murfreesboro and decided to have her leg checked out at a local hospital early this morning. An x-ray showed that she had suffered a bullet wound. Also in this case, no one reported seeing a person fire a gun in the area. Black was treated and released from the Murfreesboro hospital.
In a third case, Louis Hernandez, 63, of Miami, reported that he was watching the fireworks from 1st Avenue North at Church Street at 9:45 p.m. when he felt something hit his chest. Hernandez said he brushed the area with his hand and a spent bullet fell to the ground. Hernandez received a small red mark to his skin.
