In what could have been a scene from a holly blockbuster on Sunday afternoon in North Nashville, bounty hunter Dejuan Pittman, along with a second bounty hunter, were in the parking lot of Popeye’s restaurant to detain Richard Anthony Walker III, 22, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court.

Anthony Walker arrived at the restaurant as a passenger in a stolen car that was driven by Dandre Riley, age 27. The bounty hunters tried to block in the vehicle containing the suspect when Riley accelerated forward, striking the vehicle of one of the bounty hunters and a parked vehicle.

Bounty hunter Dejuan Pittman, 34, fired his gun at the driver, striking Dandre Riley in the neck. Riley was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. He was uncooperative, gave detectives false information and said he did not want to prosecute for the shooting. An arrest warrant charging Riley with the September 29th theft of the car he was driving has been issued. He will be booked on that warrant upon his discharge from the hospital.

Bounty hunter Dejuan Pittman, the shooter, declined to be interviewed on Sunday, and North precinct detectives did not take him into custody. They are still trying to determine whether charges will be pressed for the shooting.

The fugitive he was originally after, Richard Anthony Walker III was detained at the scene and was booked by officers on the two failure to appear warrants.
