On Wednesday, November 7th, MNPD responded to a shooting in the J.C. Napier public housing development, in the 100 block of Charles Davis Boulevard, where they found Tachelle Pickett, shot by Jonella Hambrick (aka ‘Shorty’).

It all started with a social media post by ‘Shorty’ Jonella Hambrick, who at 4:04 PM posted this to Facebook under her account ‘Shorty Da Queen’:

“O[I] have been misjudged for to long….THIS SHIT ENDS TODAY!!!!”

Nine minutes later, at 4;13 PM, she posted a video, and states “When I said I been misjudged for too long, and this shit ends TODAY, I meant that shit. I been on my good girl shit because of BAM. I got baptized, tried to change my life, and all that…”, and then the video abruptly ends.

According to witnesses and police reports, ‘Shorty’ Jonella Hambrick, 41, got into a heated argument with Tachelle Pickett, 22. Witnesses tell Scoop: Nashville that Tachelle was walking away from the altercation, when Hambrick fired a shot toward her, as she walked away. After the first shot was fired, the victim turned around and a struggle over the handgun ensued, and Tachelle was struck multiple times by the gunfire.

Witnesses  report that ‘Shorty’ Hambrick said:

“Ya and I’ll shooter her again!”

Hambrick then left the location towards an alleyway, and the victim went inside her apartment to wait for police. The gun was reported to be a pink and black pistol. MNPD responded at 5:31 PM, and found the victim in the apartment. She told police the person that shot her was a female that went by “Shorty”, described as a black female, with blonde streaks in her dreadlocks, wearing what appeared to be a multicolored dress. After being located, Jonella Hambrick (aka ‘Shorty’) was located and taken into custody, after she was observed on a balcony on Charles E. Davis Blvd. She had blood on her knees and her sweater, indicative that she had been in an altercation.

While Pickett was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Hambrick was taken to the Hermitage precinct to be interviewed. She admitted to going to the area in which she knew the victim would be, however she denied shooting her, or anything about her being shot.

When confronted with multiple witness statements that confirmed her as being the shooter, Hambrick told police they were all lying “because they are all for her(the victim)”. Detectives asked her if her hands were test positive for gunshot residue, to show that she’s recently fired a gun, she admitted she would test positive, because she had fired a gun earlier in the evening.

Just last month, Hambrick posted to Facebook:

Hambrick is charged with attempted criminal homicide, and a felony weapons possession charge. She has previous convictions for cocaine possession, aggravated assault, and theft. She is currently held on a $80,000 bond.
