In August, Tuan Cong Van, 37, was arrested on an aggravated assault with a deadly charge after he fired a weapon at his girlfriend during a separation. The case was presented to the Grand Jury in December, and he is now charged with attempted first degree murder – (premeditated and with intent), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism.
The charges stem from an August incident when Tuan Van shot the vehicle of his girlfriend as they were going through a separation. His girlfriend, the victim, was getting into her vehicle after work, and noticed her other vehicle, which Tuan drove, was also parked in the parking lot of her work.
According to police reports, Tuan stepped out of his vehicle, wearing a yellow glove on his hand that was gripping a handgun. Tuan then pointed the gun at the victim, who was now sitting in her vehicle, and demanded that she open the door of the vehicle, or he would shoot her.
The victim lowered her heard in fear she was about to be shot, and then attempted to flee the parking lot. Tuan then fired on her vehicle, striking the bumper of her BMW X5 as she was fleeing.
Tuan Van is now charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism. He is currently free on a $60,000 bond and will appear for arraignment on January 9th.
