Metro Roofing employees capture armed burglar, detain him until police arrive

Police responded to Metro Roofing on 16th Avenue North on Wednesday, after employees called to report they captured an armed burglar and were detaining him for the police.

Employees observed 18-year-old Demarrea Cotton, along with two other young black males, on the company property acting suspicious. As employees approached them, they observed Cotton inside an employee’s vehicle, going through the glove box. The group took off running, however employees were able to grab Cotton as he exited the truck.

As the employees were walking Cotton back near the main office to wait for police, they got back inside the main gate, and one of the other suspects began to wrestle with an employee, before taking off on foot, again. Seeing this, Cotton also attempted to wrestle free from the employees that were detaining him, but was unsuccessful. During the struggle with employees, a silver .22 caliber firearm fell from Cotton’s pocket.

Metro Police arrived, and were watch the entire incident on video. Demarrea Cotton was taken into custody, and charged with burglary. He is currently held on a $3,500 bond.
