Goodlettsville Police charged 18-year-old Zackary Beckham with Tampering with Evidence, a class C felony that carries a 3-10 year prison sentence, if found guilty. His crime? He ate a marijuana blunt while the officers were responding a noise complaint at an apartment.
Officer Devonte Tapp, and Sergeant Matt Shoesmith were the officers on the scene. They had responded to a simple noise complaint on January 8th, at 10:37 p.m. on Moss Trail in Goodlettsville. Upon making contact with the leaseholder in regard to the noise complaint, officer say there was a strong odor of marijuana ’emitting from the apartment once she opened the door’, and as she came outside, she shut the door behind her.
When asked, she denied any marijuana in the apartment, and that she and Zackary Beckham had finished the blunt prior to the officers arriving. Despite further repeated denials, she eventually admitted to having a “few roaches and a blunt”, and offered to take the officer & sergeant to them inside the apartment. As the trio entered the apartment, Zackary Beckham said:
“I ate the weed, it was better than catching a charge.”
Zachary Beckham, 18, was taken into custody and charged with the Class C Felony of tampering with evidence, because he ate a marijuana roach when police responded to a noise complaint. He is currently held in lieu of a $5,00 bond.
