Metro Police located an 8-year-old child wandering the streets of North Nashville late Tuesday night. When they returned the child to its home, they discovered a 12-year-old & a 2-year-old home alone, and realized another 11-year-old autistic child had also wandered off, too. That child was located near a local hotel, and Megan Moreno was arrested and charged with 4 counts of child neglect.

It was just before midnight last night when officers received calls about the 8-year-old child alone, roaming the streets near the Taco Bell on Rosa L Parks Boulevard. Once located, the child was able to direct officers to an apartment on Ponder Place.

Officers arrived to the Ponder place apartment, to find what the report describes as an apartment in “total disarray.” One officer’s description says the residence was covered in food, trash, and clothing. Officers found that a 12-year-old child was left to regularly supervise himself, an 11-year-old autistic child, an 8-year-old child, and a 2-year-old child, multiple times per week. During last night’s contact, the 12-year-old told police the 11-year-old autistic child had also wandered off, to an unknown place. Metro police were later able to locate the child at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel in North Nashville.

Inside the apartment, police noted there was no phone or other devices for the children to contact anyone in an emergency. They report Megan Moreno would leave them like this regularly, inside the filthy residence, to fend for themselves, and no way to properly care for themselves or one another.

DCS was contacted about the incident, and plans to investigate. The mother, Megan T Moreno, age 32, was located, arrested, and charged with 2 counts of Child Neglect – Child 9-17, and 2 counts of Child Neglect- Child 8 or less. Moreno was booked into jail at 11:39 PM last night, and released at 4:06 AM today, after posting a $5,000 bond via Bail-U-Out Bonding. She is scheduled to appear in court in February.
