Friend gives couple ride home from hospital, robs them at gunpoint on way home

A man was on his way to pick up his girlfriend from Vanderbilt hospital when his car broke down. He called his friend, 31-year-old Joshua Raines Thompson, to come help. Thompson drove him to Vanderbilt, picked up the girlfriend, and on the way back to Ashland City, robbed them at gunpoint.

Metro Police say it happened on January 26, when they responded to an aggravated robbery call at the McDonald’s in Joelton. The two victims say they had stopped here on the way back home from Vanderbilt, with Thompson driving them. While the female going out of the vehicle to go inside to purchase food, leaving the two men in the vehicle. While the female victim was inside, the male victim says Joshua Thompson pulled a silver handgun from the center console and pointed it at him, demanding he get out of the vehicle, knowing the female victim had left her cell phone and purse in the vehicle. The male victim complied with the armed gunman’s commands, and then Joshua Thompson fled the area in the vehicle, with their possessions.

Joshua Thompson is charged with aggravated robbery, theft of property, and an outstanding capias warrant. He is held in lieu of a $35,000 bond.
