Hillsboro High School student arrested: weapons on school property

The search of a Hillsboro High student resulted in his arrest for bringing multiple knives to school on Thursday, which were hidden on his person.

Hillsboro High School’s Dean of Students, Ms. Cate, had escorted student Soloman Ra Smith to the school resource office, as he was suspected of drawing graffiti on school property. During a search of the student’s person and his belongings, with Metro Police present, the student told Ms. Cate he had a knife in his jacket pocket. She located the black ‘Tac-Force’ knife, and asked why he had it on his person. Smith told her he rides the city bus late at night.

A complete search of the student and his belongings resulted in another knife, this one a butterfly knife, in his pants pocket. As the officer was searching him incident to arrest, he located a 3rd knife, in the waistband of the student’s pants.

Soloman Smith, 18, was transported to booking and charged with carrying weapons on school property. He is currently free on pre-trial release, and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
