Samuel Bland, 20, is facing charges after a police say he and accomplice(s) picked up a Snapchat acquaintance who needed a ride, drove him to a parking lot in Bellevue, locked the vehicle doors, and severely beat him until he lost consciousness several times.

According to the victim, the incident happened on November 7th at approximately 10:00 p.m., when he was at a bus stop on Gay Street, attempting to get home to Franklin, TN. With no available WeGo Transit options that late, and not wanting to take an Uber, he posted his location to Snapchat and said he needed a ride. Soon after, an acquaintance, Samuel Bland, responded to his snap, and told the victim he would pick him up.

Bland arrived in a white Toyota 4Runner, belonging to a co-defendant who was driving, and picked up the victim from the bus stop. The victim noticed they were not driving toward Franklin, but in the direction of Bellevue. Bland said he needed to stop and pick up his car before they went to Franklin, and they pulled into the parking lot of a shopping center at 7615 Hwy 70 South in Bellevue.

The victim says as they entered the parking lot, all the doors locked on the vehicle, and an unknown suspect jumped over the back seat and began punching him. During the attack, which was being filmed and posted to Snapchat by Samuel Bland, the unknown suspect from the rear of the vehicle placed the victim in a ‘choke hold’ at which point he lost consciousness several times. While the vehicle was moving slowly through the parking lot the victim was eventually able to unlock a rear door and jump from the moving vehicle, during which time the unknown suspect bit him in the left arm as his body left the vehicle.

Bland was taken into custody on Wednesday on the outstanding warrant, and is currently the only defendant in custody. He is currently charged with robbery, as the victim’s cell phone and laptop remained in the vehicle. He is free on a $10,000 bond. The case is still developing, and we will update with more information when available.

Bland was arrested for DUI 3 days after the above incident, and that case was concluded last week and he accepted a plea deal for a reduced charge of reckless endangerment, with a probated 11/29 sentence.

Additionally, Bland was due in court in Williamson County today for a probation hearing, stemming from a 2107 incident in which he and two co-defendants were traveling in a vehicle along Egypt Hollow Road when they spotted a white-tailed doe just off the road. Bland allegedly steered to keep the deer in their headlights while the other two shot at it from the vehicle. The trio then brought the dead doe to the Temple Hills Country Club where they climbed over a fence and dumped it in the pool. Damage to the country club was nearly $7,500.
