Shoplifter punches store security in face, tells MNPD “I should have knocked his ass out”

Myleisha Bennett, 18, is currently held in lieu of a $13,500 bond, after police say she a punched store security guard in the face when he attempted to apprehend her for shoplifting. She then attempted to sneak pepper spray into jail with her.

Metro Police were dispatched to Walmart, located at 4040 Nolensville Pike, in response to two black female shoplifters. The pair was observed by the loss prevention officer on video concealing merchandise throughout the store. The defendants then walked to the garden center and passed the last point of sale. As MNPD Officer Johnathon Birdwell walked about the corner, he observed 19-year-old Myleisha Bennett in a physical fight with the loss prevention officer, as the unidentified co-defendant resisted an attempt to stop her, as she fled the scene on foot. She punched loss prevention officer in the face, and refused all commands by Officer Birdwell to stop moving and stop resisting.

Bennett was taken into custody, and placed in the back of the patrol car for transport. According to Officer Birdwell, she told him “I should have knocked his ass out.” As then entered booking, she was informed that any contraband found on her would result in a felony, if taken into the facility. A secondary search of Bennett by a female officer, located a hidden blue bottle of Sabre Red pepper spray on her person.

Myleisha Bennett, 18, is charged with assault, theft, resisting arrest, and introducing contraband into a penal institution. She is held in lieu of a $13,00 bond.
