Roger Lewis Eddings, 63, remains jailed today, charged with assuming a fighting stance and punching a Metro Nashville Police officer square in the face when the officer attempted to remove him from the roadway.

Metro Police say they observed Eddings standing and walking in the roadway, while blocking traffic and yelling and swinging at cars as they passed. He was warned multiple times to get out of the street for his own safety, but refused each time.

Metro Nashville Officer Darien Spann, who recently busted a driver with 40 THC cartridges, then approached Eddings to remove him from the street. As Officer Spann approached, wearing a vest marked ‘MNPD’, Eddings assumed a fighting posture, and when Spann reached him, Eddings punched the officer in the face.

Roger Eddings was taken into custody, and found to have a near empty pint of whiskey on his person. Eddings freely admitted to officers that he had been drinking alcohol and smoking crack cocaine. Eddings remains jailed on a $6,500 bond, charged with obstructing a passageway, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and assault of an officer – offensive contact.
