The man shot outside O’Reilly Auto Parts on Monroe Street this afternoon is identified as Antonio Parham, 26. He is being treated for a critical wound to his chest at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

After completing interviews with witnesses, North Precinct detectives have concluded that Parham went to the auto parts store at 2:40 p.m. with another man who had an argument with an employee earlier in the day. Parham approached the front of the store carrying a shotgun. The 23-year-old employee who was involved in the argument earlier saw Parham approaching with the shotgun, drew his own pistol, and fired one shot through the front glass window. Parham was hit and fell to the pavement. Persons who traveled to the store with Parham loaded him into a vehicle and dropped him off at General Hospital. Parham was then transferred to Vanderbilt.

The 23-year-old employee told detectives that he fired the shot because he was in fear for his safety and that of other persons inside the store. No charges are being placed against him at this time. The completed case file will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.
