22-year Calvin Courter is held in a Nashville jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault. Police say he sucker punched a man at the downtown McDonald’s, kicked him while on the ground, rendering him unconscious, then continued to stomp on his head as people yelled ‘stop kicking him’ – as the victim laid on the ground, bleeding from his head, causing a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.
Courter was arrested and charged on Thursday, after being located in Wilson County and transferred to Nashville to face the charge of aggravated assault with intentional serious bodily injury, a Class C felony. The attack happened on March 31st, when police say the victim was at the McDonald’s at 1201 Broadway in downtown Nashville. According to store employees and multiple witnesses, the victim was inside the location at 3:40 a.m., arguing with Courter about ‘random girls’.
Without warning, Courter is said to have sucker punched the victim, knocking him to the ground briefly, before he got back up, and the parties went outside. As store employees attempted to separate the two, Courter punched the victim three more times, causing him to fall to the ground. Witnesses all report that Courter then kicked the victim in the head while he was on the ground, at which point he became unconscious. Witnesses screamed for Courter to stop, but he continued.
As the victim was on the ground, unconscious, Courter reportedly then began to stomp the victim’s head with his foot, at which point the victim began bleeding from his head. Courter fled the scene, and the victim was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.
Courter had been at the McDonald’s with a friend, who drove him away from the scene, but had to bring him back, as Courter had left his glasses at the scene. As they returned, people were yelling and screaming at them, but they retrieved Courter’s glasses and drove away, a second time, before dropping Courter off at his own vehicle, parked at nearby condos in the Gulch. In the meantime, Courter’s girlfriend arrived to the scene, as she was supposed to pick Courter up from the location, but was unable to locate him, and was unaware of what had just transpired. She showed a photo of Courter to some people on scene, to ask if they had seen Courter, so she could locate him, at which time one of witnesses identified him as the man who attacked the victim.
Officers then confirmed the identity, and arrest warrants were issued, and Courter was arrested in Wilson County, and transported back to Nashville. Courter is held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
