56-year-old Sharon Faison was jailed Wednesday afternoon, charged with DUI & resisting, after she was arrested in the parking lot of an East Nashville Kroger, where she drove up on a curb and told police she was going to buy wine.

Metro Police say they observed a white Honda SUV turning from Straightway onto Gallatin Pike Wednesday afternoon, when it nearly collided with two other vehicles. The SUV, driven by 56-year-old East Nashville resident Sharon Faison, then attempted to turn into the Kroger parking lot at 711 Gallatin Pike. Faison pulled from the roadway up onto a curb that wasn’t designed to be driven on. Her SUV became stuck on the curb, however she continued to attempt to accelerate, spinning the tires of the vehicle.

Officers were able to gain entry via the passenger side door of the vehicle while the tires were still spinning, and told Faison to place the vehicle in park. Sharon Faison then placed the SUV into reverse, and attempted to accelerate once again. Officers were able to place the vehicle into park and take the keys from the ignition, as they reached inside to attempt to prevent her from injuring anyone.

As Faison stepped out of the vehicle, officers reported she ‘smelled very strongly’ of alcohol, and was extremely unsteady on her feet, and had a hard time standing on her own, or walking normally. Police say she told them she had ‘two beers’ and was coming to Kroger to buy wine. As officers attempted to place Faison into custody, the 56-year-old woman refused to be arrested, and would not give her hands to officers, despite repeated requests, and continued to pull away from officers. Eventually she was cuffed, and charged with DUI, resisting arrest, and violation of the implied consent law, as she refused all testing. Faison was freed on pre-trial release 3 hours after her arrest.
