35-year-old Matthew S. Dies is jailed on a $10,000 bond this morning, charged with felony theft. Police say he stole a wedding ring from a home in August, when he went to work with his girlfriend, who is a housekeeper.

An East Nashville housekeeper bought her boyfriend, Matthew Dies, with her to help clean a house last August. She would later tell police that after they finished for the day and left, dies began to act strangely. Shortly after leaving, the housekeeper received a phone call from the homeowner, stating that her wedding ring, valued at $6,065, was missing. She told her client that her boyfriend was with her at the house to help her, but was no longer with her at that time.

At some point later, Dies contacted his girlfriend, the housekeeper, and had a three-way phone call with the homeowner, during which he admitted to stealing the ring. The homeowner recorded this phone call, and it was submitted as evidence to Metro police.

During the investigation, it was learned that Matthew Dies pawned the ring at Green Hills Gold & Silver for cash, where he signed a notarized statement swearing the ring was his property. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Matthew Dies in December, and he was located in Lebanon on Monday, and transferred to Davidson County yesterday, where he was formally charged with felony theft. Dies remains jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
