Man arrested while tearing hole in gutter of stranger’s house to protect it from lightning

Matthew Kreighbaum was arrested Saturday afternoon after police say he tore a hole in the gutter system of a stranger’s home “so lightning would not strike”.

Metro Nashville police arrived to the 19th Ave North home, in response to a suspicious person call. Upon arrival, officer Eric McCoy reports observing 31-year-old Matthew Kreighbaum tearing a hole through the gutter system of the home. When questioned about his actions, Kreighbaum told the officer he was “only tearing a hole through the gutter so lightning would not strike”.

Kreighbaum does not live at the location, and was placed under arrest for vandalism and criminal trespass. He remains jailed in lieu of a $1,150 bond.
