Man assaults woman over not renewing car tags

Police have charged Diego Granillo with aggravated assault after they say he grabbed his girlfriend by the hair, flung her to the floor, and strangled her, stating “next time I’ll kill you and burn down the house with the children inside” – during an argument over her not renewing the car tags.

At 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 12th, Metro Police say 38-year-old Diego Beristain Granillo got upset with his girlfriend for not placing the new renewal sticker on the license plate of a vehicle. It further angered him when she disclosed that she had not yet renewed the tags to receive a new sticker. Once he learned this, he is said to have grabbed his girlfriend by her hair, flinging her to the floor, where she struck her chin, leaving a visible injury according to police.

The report details that Granillo then grabbed the victim by her upper arm, leaving clear marks, before grabbing her around her neck, causing her to “see black”. The victim reports Granillo told her:

“I will kill you next time, and burn the house down with the children inside”

Granillo was charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury for this incident, and on open warrants for stalking, domestic assault, vandalism, aggravated assault, and aggravated burglary. He remains jailed on a $72,500 bond. The victim was later transported to the hospital for her injuries.
