47-year-old Rebecca Hayes and her boyfriend were staying at the Best Western Music Row Thursday when an argument turned physical. During the argument, she bit off a piece of his ear, which was recovered, and he was transported to Vanderbilt due to his injuries.

Metro Nashville Police responded to the Best Western Music Row at 1407 Division Street at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, to a domestic disturbance call. Upon arrival, they made contact with the male victim and his girlfriend, Rebecca Hayes. They report being in an intimate relationship, but do not live together. The male victim reports they were out drinking and recently returned to the hotel. The verbal argument began due to him feeling that Rebecca Hayes was overly intoxicated, and it was a recurring issue.

At some point, he reportedly believed the argument was ending, and leaned in to hug Ms. Hayes, but as he embraced her, she bit his right ear, completely removing a piece of his ear from his body.

Hayes told police she did bit his ear off, literally, but stated she only bit him because he struck her in the face first. Police report finding no visible injuries or indications she had been hit about her person. The victim was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center due to his injuries, and Rebecca Hayes was booked into custody, charged with felony aggravated assault, where she remains jailed on a $6,000 bond.
