Allan Debowsky, of Debo’s Bail Bond Company, found himself in an odd situation Wednesday, as he became a wanted man, with Metro Nashville looking to place cuffs on him, instead of his usual placing cuffs on people he’s surrendering. He is charged with hiring a felon to work as a bounty hunter.
I spoke with Debowsky Wednesday afternoon, as he said he was preparing to come to Nashville to turn himself in to be booked on the Grand Jury indictment, which charges him with employing a felon as a bounty hunter, and tampering with evidence. The indictment also covers his sister, Brigetha Carbonell, who is also not yet in custody. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, and impersonating a professional (bounty hunter). The 3rd person the indictment charges is 38-year-old Jay Bean, who was arrested Tuesday and charged with impersonating a professional, and bounty hunting by a felon. He is free on a $1,500 bond, via 1 Hour Bonding.
Debowsky says the entire incident is a misunderstanding, and that Jay Bean was never what should be considered a ‘bounty hunter’, but more of a ‘tipster’ who would “research things on the computer” to provide leads and tips to Debowsky. The state, however, disagreed with that description and presented the case to the Davidson County Grand Jury, who indicted all three on the listed charges. The entire incident stemmed from an incident where the trio was attempting to take Antonio Briley into custody on January 23rd, 2019 at the Extended Stay America at 727 McGavock Pike in Nashville. As of publication, Jay Bean was the only one of the trio that had been booked. An arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
The Rutherford County Clerk’s office, which is the primary county from which he operates, confirms this could limit the ability of his company to take on new bonds until this is resolved. This is a developing story.
