28-year-old Reshonda Simpson was arrested Monday, charged with the April carjacking of a man she knew and lured to a location where she and an associate took his Dodge Charger and wallet at gunpoint.

Metro Police say in the early morning hours of April 17th, the victim in the case began receiving text messages from a local number, and soon realized he knew the person, as she had dated his nephew several years prior. He would eventually agree to meet her and drove to an apartment complex on S. 4th Street, however, she told him she was watching a child, and to return in 30 minutes. He noted that as he left, Reshonda was making a phone call and whispering into the phone.

The victim returned in 30 minutes, as requested, and picked up Reshonda. The pair traveled to the home of the victim’s friend on Cheyenne Blvd. Once parked, the victim was getting something out of the 2012 Dodge Charger, when a male black stepped from the bushes, pointed a gun at him, and said: “come on with it”. Reshonda got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle, the male took the key to the car and the victim’s wallet, and also got into the car, and the pair fled the area.

Police arrived at the scene and were able to identify the phone number of Reshonda as the person who has texted him earlier in the day, and that information, along with her mugshot, was on the screen of the laptop in the patrol car by happenstance as result of the search on the number. The victim was speaking to officers near the patrol car, and noticed the mugshot on the screen and exclaimed “that’s her! that’s the girl that robbed me!”, positively identifying her.

A warrant was issued for her arrest on that day, and she was served and booked into the Metro Jail on July 1st, where she remains jailed in lieu of a $50,000 bond on a charge of carjacking/robbery.
