Metro Police have charged Nicquise Trevon Betts, 23, with felony reckless endangerment after they say he raised a pistol in the air and fired 15 shots while talking on the phone just before 2 a.m. Thursday morning.

Metro Police were in the area on a different call when they heard gunshots coming from near 25th/26th Ave N. early Thursday morning. The responded and observed a group of people running from the area of the gunshots.

A witness was able to describe the gunman, and police used cameras in the area to view footage of the incident. The video showed Nicquise Trevon Betts talking on a phone while he raised a pistol in the air and fired approximately 15 shots into the air. Initially, Betts refused to speak to police but later asked to speak about the case with the police. While speaking to his mother, he admitted the gun was “in the drawer of the dresser”, and it was retrieved. The gun matched the caliber of the shell casings recovered from the scene.

Nicquise Trevon Betts was charged with reckless endangerment, booked into the Metro Jail, and released on a $5,000 bond.b Betts was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in May, but the case was dismissed as the victim failed to cooperate with the prosecution of the case.
