Mayrel Munoz-Reyes, 40, is charged with aggravated assault by strangulation after police say she choked her long-term boyfriend in front of their daughter in Antioch on January 7th, stating he would not ‘give her space’ in the living room.
Officers responded to a domestic assault in progress on Waikiki Boulevard and when they arrived the couple, Mayrel Munoz-Reyes, and Carlos Perez, were still arguing in the room with their daughter present. According to Carlos his wife, Mayrel, became angry with him because he refused to give her space in their living room. Then Mayrel became irate and Carlos went into the bedroom but she followed him while continuing to argue.
Mayrel began attacking Carlos in the bedroom by pushing and slapping him, per an arrest report. As the argument progressed she escalated the matter by wrapping both of her hands around Carlos’ neck, choking him. Carlos said he did not lose the ability to breathe but there were finger-shaped bruises around his neck as well as bruises on his chest where he had been slapped. Their daughter witnessed the argument and was questioned. Her response was that she, “saw mommy put hands around daddy’s neck.” Mayrel was then taken into custody without incident.
Mayrel Munoz-Reyes was charged with domestic assault and is free on a $5000.00 bond.
