53-year-old Sharyn Wells and 29-year-old Mark Yurt were charged with child neglect and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after the couple overdosed in Mapco while their 13-year-old son was waiting in the car.
On February 8th, officers were dispatched to the Mapco on Murfreesboro Pike due to Nashville Fire Department responding to an apparent overdose. Upon arrival, police made contact with NFD and they stated that Medics 4 and 15 arrived on scene and observed Sharyn Wells and Mark Yurt overdosing inside Mapco. They were both given Narcan and regained consciousness. Sharyn stated that she and her husband acquired heroin, went to the Mapco bathroom, and began to shoot up heroin. She went on to say that once they left the bathroom, Mark began to overdose and she followed.

While this was happening, their 13-year-old son was sitting in the car parked outside. Sharyn and Mark were both transported to Southern Hills Hospital. Youth Services Sargent Turner took custody of the child due to neither of the parents knowing the address of their relatives they were visiting. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers found 10.8 grams of marijuana along with a joint in the glove box. Evidence was turned in to property and the vehicle was towed to Cottons Lot.
Sharyn Wells and Mark Yurt were arrested for Child Neglect and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Sharyn’s bond was set at $4,000 and Mark’s bond was set at $3,000.
