62-year-old Don Lewis Cox is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he fired 2 rounds during a road rage incident after first motioning to the victim he would “beat his ass”, and rescinded that offer, replacing it with “Actually, you’re a big guy. I ought to just shoot you”.

Officer Hamblen responded to an area in Madison near Old Hickory Boulevard and I-65 on February 13th to a report of a road rage incident. The victim, Jeremy Stevenson, reported he had to merge into Cox’s lane due to a police vehicle stopped ahead of them. Cox reportedly took offense to this and rolled his window down at the next traffic light to make verbal threats to the victim to “beat his ass”. He then said “Actually, you’re a big guy. I ought to just shoot you”, per an arrest warrant, and produced a revolver.

Stevenson proceeded to speed through the intersection to escape Cox, and got onto the interstate toward downtown Nashville. Cox pursued him, and pulled alongside him and attempted to strike the victim’s vehicle with his sedan. When Cox realized he was being recorded, he sped away, but not before the victim captured his license plate on camera.

A warrant was issued, and Don Cox was taken into custody, charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is free on a $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court in March.
