Barnes & Noble employee caught embezzling by making fraudulent refunds to herself

19-year-old Cori Barbee was charged with theft of property after her employer, Barnes & Noble, caught her stealing money with the help of her girlfriend.

On February 25th, Osbey Orozco with Loss Prevention at Barnes & Noble, reported to police that Cori Barbee admitted to stealing money from the store. Cori was a cashier and made fraudulent refunds on purchases made by paying customers and would hand the money to her girlfriend at the cash register.

Cori admitted the thefts started in October 2019 and lasted until February 19th. Osbey reviewed the security footage and questioned Cori about the incident. Cori then admitted the refunds amounted to approximately $5,000 over the course of 5 months.

Cori Barbee was arrested and charged with Theft of Property. Her bond was set at $2,000.
