23-year-old Austin Miller was charged with aggravated assault with strangulation after he assaulted the mother of his 3-year-old daughter while the child watched.

On March 13th, officers met with Martha Ramos at 2703 Fannie Williams Street in regard to an incidence of domestic violence. According to an affidavit, she told officers she had been at 323 Flora Maxwell Road when she got into a verbal confrontation with Austin Miller about his drug use. He retaliated with physical force and proceeded to strangle her until she could no longer breathe. Martha also reported that Austin pulled her by her hair and threatened to kill her, all while their 3-year-old daughter watched.

Austin told Martha that “he loved her but had to teach her a lesson.” The assault only stopped because a roommate entered the room. She also had text messages showing where Austin admitted to the strangulation. Reports state that when police visited the original scene, Austin admitted to everything except the strangulation despite the fact that officers had already observed evidence of injury on Martha’s neck. Austin continued to threaten Martha’s life saying by things like when he gets out of jail, she will be in an ambulance and that this was a promise and not a threat.

Austin Miller was charged with aggravated assault with strangulation and was arrested for two outstanding warrants for driving on a suspended license. He is jailed in lieu of an $8,000 bond.
