Man charged with handgun and marijuana after cutting off police officer

22-year-old Kadin Bell was charged with possession of a handgun while under the influence and possession of a controlled substance after he cut off a police officer traveling down Donelson Pike which initiated a traffic stop.

On March 16th, Officer Prill was traveling on Donelson Pike near the I-40 East entrance ramp. Kadin Bell was traveling in a separate lane when he merged over into the same lane causing Officer Prill to slam the brakes and maneuver into the shoulder lane. The officer then initiated a traffic stop to which Kadin was slow to stop and continued traveling onto airport property after moving into the shoulder lane. Officer Prill noted that while approaching the vehicle, there was an obvious odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

Upon making contact with Kadin, the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle and if there was anything illegal inside it. Kadin stated that there was marijuana located in the vehicle. A search was then conducted and Officer Ward discovered a “marijuana cigarette” in the side pocket of the front passenger door and a baggie of marijuana that was shoved between the center console and two seats. The total weight of the marijuana found was 5.7 grams. Officer Prill found two Smith & Wesson handguns under the driver’s seat. After Kadin was Mirandized, he admitted to being the owner of the guns and to smoking marijuana before getting pulled over.

Kadin Bell was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun while under the influence along with possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $4,000.
