Man chokeslams girlfriend causing blurred vision and loss of consciousness, per report

31-year-old Darius Deberry was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation after an argument escalated to him grabbing his girlfriend by the throat and slamming her on the ground, causing her to lose consciousness.

On March 18th, police were dispatched to Windcrest Trail in reference to a domestic disturbance. Takedia Carpenter told officers she was trying to have a conversation with boyfriend Darius Deberry, but he became combative. Takedia stated she and Darius both shoved each other and Darius then grabbed her by the throat, picked her up, and slammed her to the ground. Takedia said this caused her to briefly lose consciousness.

When police arrived Darius had already fled the scene. Takedia also stated during the altercation some of her nails were broken. Police photographed her broken nails for evidence. Ms. White, Takedia’s grandmother, reported that she witnessed the events transpire. Ms. White also told officers when Takedia regained consciousness, she complained about having blurred vision. Takedia also told police that her throat was sore and she was having difficulty swallowing as a result of having been strangled. Police later took Darius into custody and transported him to booking.

Darius Deberry was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. His bond was set at $10,000.
