24-year-old Justin Brooks was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation after his girlfriend reported that he choked her to the point she could not breathe and then dragged her by her hair out of his apartment.
On March 13th, a domestic incident was reported at 906 Hickory Highlands Drive. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Julia Herod as she was sitting in her vehicle in front of her apartment. Julia told officers she and her boyfriend Justin Brooks usually have arguments but they never get physical. Julia continued that she had confronted Justin about suspicions of cheating that resulted in him getting upset.
Julia said Justin then grabbed her by the hair, started choking her, and then proceeded to drag her by her hair out of the apartment. Julia explained that she did not lose consciousness, but she could not breathe while Justin’s hands were around her neck and that’s why she threw up. Officers observed vomit and a “clump of what looked like her hair” where Julia was sitting. Officers also noted that Julia had red marks on her neck and cuts on her wrists that were consistent with her statements. Based on the information given, Justin was considered the primary aggressor.
On March 16th, Justin Brooks was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. His bond was set at $10,000.
