Teen fleeing burglary nearly hits officers; causes accident with innocent bystander

19-year-old Makya Goins was charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault of an officer with a deadly weapon and evading arrest after fleeing the scene of a burglary in a vehicle nearly hitting multiple officers and causing a vehicular accident with an uninvolved party.

On March 16th, officers responded to a burglary in progress on Westchester Drive. As officers arrived, Makya Goins attempted to flee in a vehicle with the other individuals involved in the burglary. Makya knowingly operated her vehicle in a manner that placed officers in immediate danger. She drove toward officers forcing them to take swift and evasive action to avoid being hit by the vehicle.

Makya drove the vehicle from Westchester Drive to Brick Church Pike and caused an accident with another uninvolved party. The victim of the burglary was transported to the scene of the accident and positively identified three of the individuals within the vehicle as being involved in the aforementioned crimes. Makya was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in order to receive medical treatment for injuries she sustained in the crash. Once released from the hospital, Makya was taken into custody.

Makya Goins was arrested and charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault on an officer with a deadly weapon and evading arrest by motor vehicle. Her bond was set at $20,000.
