Teenagers “weeded” out of state park during visit after hours

18-year-olds Oscar Sosa and Jose Ayala were charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia after getting caught in a state park after hours with marijuana.

On March 10th at 2:47 AM, officers observed a vehicle entering Smith Springs Recreation Area located at 3060 Smith Springs Road. Since the park was closed at that time, an investigation was initiated.

When officers approached the vehicle, they immediately detected the odor of marijuana. Police were suspicious of the passenger shifting materials around and the driver was not licensed to operate the vehicle. The report states that a search of the vehicle revealed 57.5 grams of weed, a scale, and a lighter.

Oscar Sosa and Jose Ayala were arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Both men were freed on pre-trial release.
