Madison man admits to having marijuana, digital scale on him during traffic stop

24-year-old Kendarius Lyles was charged with possession of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia after he was pulled over for multiple lane changes without using his turn signal in heavy traffic that lead him to admit to police that he had marijuana, a flip phone, and a scale on his person.

On March 28th, police observed a white Dodge Charger cruising down Trinity Lane near Dickerson Pike complete two lane changes without signaling properly in heavy traffic. A traffic stop was initiated and upon making contact, police smelled the obvious odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle as the windows were rolled down. Officers spoke to the occupants of the vehicle, including Kendarius Lyles, who was located in the rear passenger seat. When police asked everyone if there was marijuana in the vehicle one of the passengers admitted there was.

Officers then proceeded to search the vehicle due to having probable cause. The search uncovered 90 grams of marijuana in a backpack that was found in the backseat. The backpack also contained plastic baggies. A search of Kendarius’ person found $975.00 in cash in the left pocket of his pants and a scale his right pocket. After he was Mirandized, Kendarius admitted the backpack belonged to him and that a portion of the money was from drug sales. He also told police the small black flip phone and the scale found in his pocket were used to sell marijuana.

Kendarius Lyles was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $3,500.
