29-year-old James Curry was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and interfering with an emergency call when police say a break-up escalated into him throwing a brick at his boyfriend and cutting him with a piece of glass.

On March 18th, officers responded to 1807 26th Avenue North on a call about a possible physical altercation. According to the affidavits, when officers arrived they spoke with James Curry who stated he was not involved in any fracas. Authorities inquired about what appeared to be blood on his jacket and he assured them it was dirt. When police encountered Quantarieus Caruthers, he told them he and Curry were in a relationship that had dissolved that day.

He went on to explain they had gotten into a verbal disagreement and he left the residence but Curry followed and launched a brick that hit him in the back. When Caruthers stated he was calling the authorities, Curry snatched the phone to stop him and locked himself in the home. Caruthers admitted to climbing through a window to gain access to the residence prompting more physical fighting. At this point, Caruthers alleges Curry cut him with a sharp object.

James Curry admitted to the fighting but denied harming Caruthers. He stated they did break up and were both agitated, but he had no knowledge of the source of Caruthers’ injuries. Quantarieus Caruthers was transported for medical care. Officers observed injuries to his back and wrist that substantiated his statements. They also noted the home showed obvious signs of struggle to include broken furniture and blood on broken glass.

James Curry was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and interference with emergency call. His bond was set at $11,000.
