22-year-old Chandler Maynard was charged with two counts of vandalism and two counts of attempted vehicle theft after security footage revealed them at a local auto lot “peeling” a car and tying “hay bail wire” around the axle of another. He had been on the run for months.
On June 6th, 2019, Michael and Chandler Maynard visited Mitchell Auto Sales lot located at 521 Bridgeway Avenue. According to affidavits, the duo arrived around 11:52 p.m. on the 5th and departed around 12:18 a.m. Security footage showed the pair entering a Honda Civic which was later discovered to have sustained steering column damage. The Honda was not snafued earlier in the day and the damage was consistent with tactics used to steal a vehicle by starting it without a key, called “peeling”.

Another vehicle in the lot, a Mazda Protege, had “hay bail wire” tied around the axle. When Officer Lancaster arrived on the scene both Maynards were observed near the Mazda. The pair told the officer they were managers on the lot and the owner permitted them to be present, this was later found to be untrue. According to the affidavit, the owner did not know either Michael or Chandler and it was determined their actions and the footage displayed attempted vehicle theft.
On July 23rd, 2019, Chandler Maynard was arrested and charged with two counts of vandalism and two counts of attempted vehicle theft. His bond was set at $12,000. He bonded out the next day with a trial date set for October 21st, 2019. On April 19th after months on the lam, he was arrested again on the same charges.
