Man charged with DUI tells officers “I hope it’s all out of my system” before blood draw

21-year-old Denzel Washington was charged with driving under the influence when an attendant told officers he hit a gas pump twice and he claimed he got “just a little too close.” He also declared “I hope it’s all out of my system” before a blood draw.

On May 18th, Nashville Metro Police responded to a vehicle single vehicle wreck at the Thorntons located at 317 Myatt Drive. According to the affidavit, an employee reported Denzel Washington had hit a gas pump twice, once head on and once in reverse. He told officers he had gotten “just a little to close” to the pump.

Officers noted he was dazed, almost fell over many times, and had to prop himself on a vehicle to stay upright. Washington admitted to smoking marijuana at work and drank one beer, he did not perform well on field sobriety tasks. He consented to a blood test and told officers “I hope it’s all out of my system before all this.”

Denzel Washington was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant and is currently jailed in lieu of a $2,000 bond.
