Nashville man runs when officers positively identify him as an armed individual

20-year-old Kesean Smith was charged with evading arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon when police approached him based on him “displaying characteristics consistent with an armed individual”. Smith ran from police and when they caught him, they found a handgun in the immediate area.

On May 13th, Nashville Juvenile Crime Task Force was patrolling South 8th Street and Sylvan Street. They recognized the defendant, Kesean Smith, who was walking between breezeways matching the description of an armed individual. Smith bladed his body when officers approached him and ran even after police gave several commands to stop and get on the ground.

Police placed into custody when they caught up to him near 9th Street and Kirkpatrick Drive. On a stairway police obtained a Taurus 9mm handgun that Smith admitted was his. He told police that he carried it for protection even though he did not have a valid handgun carry permit. Smith was convicted of a vehicle burglary in 2018.

Kesean Smith was arrested and charged with evading arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was later freed on pre-trial release.
