25-year-old Zachary Stanfield was charged with driving under the influence, implied consent, and violation of open container law when he struck a pole and was found slumped over when police arrived. He then told officers “I am going nowhere and then somewhere and poof”.

On May 24th, police arrived on scene and noticed the defendant, Zachary Stanfield, slumped over next to a Regions Bank sign and a Chevy truck that had struck a pole head on. The truck was still running and in drive, police then checked on Stanfield. The report describes Stanfield as being very unsteady on his feet, smelling of alcohol, and watery red eyes. Stanfield told police that it is his truck and that he was driving when the accident occurred. He also admitted to drinking before he started driving.

He did not know where he was or where he was headed, according to the report. He then showed the officer his hand when the officer asked for identification. The officer determined that he was too intoxicated to perform a field sobriety test, and noticed an open bottle of Smirnoff Ice in the vehicle. When the officer tried to get him to sign the implied consent form Stanfield said, “I am going nowhere and then somewhere and poof.” He refused to do a blood test and the officer determined him to be a danger to himself so he was placed into custody.

Zachary Stanfield was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, implied consent, and violation of open container law. He was later freed on pre-trial release.
